At Star Academy Sandyford, music is valued as an engaging and enriching part of the curriculum that supports pupils’ creativity and enjoyment of learning. A wide range of musical experiences is planned to help pupils develop musical skills, knowledge and understanding in a progressive and inclusive way.
Through regular opportunities to sing, listen and perform, pupils build confidence and are encouraged to express themselves musically. Performing and singing support pupils in developing an understanding of how music is structured and organised, while also teaching them to listen attentively and appreciate a broad range of musical styles and genres.
As pupils explore different types of music, they are taught to reflect on how sound can communicate meaning. Music lessons support the development of descriptive language, enabling pupils to talk about how music can represent feelings, moods and emotions, and to respond thoughtfully to what they hear.
