What are we consulting you on?

Star Academy Sandyford is an academy, within the Academy Transformation Trust, with a nursery class which currently offers part-time free early education to three and four-year olds (the early years free entitlement). The class has 30 places and offers parents morning sessions for a total of 15 hours a week, and is open only during school term-times. This consultation is about a proposal to close the academy’s nursery class with effect from September 2024 and as a result to raise the school’s lower age range from three to four years.

We are consulting with staff, parents, the local community and talking to Stoke on Trent County Council.

The consultation closing date is 5.00pm on the 3rd May 2024.

We would welcome your feedback. Please click the link to the consultation letter for more information and for how to provide feedback. Star Academy Sandyford Nursery Closure Consultation

Reception notification of places

All on-time applicants will be notified of the school offered on 16 April. Late applications will be dealt with after on-time applications resulting in confirmation of the school offered on 1 May at the earliest.

In-Year admissions occur when an application for admission is made outside the normal admissions round. Applications can be made via  the school you wish to attend.

Pupils usually start school in September (for example in Reception or Year 6).

Sometimes your child may need to start or change school at a different time of year because:

  • you move house, either into or within Stoke-on-Trent;
  • you want your child to change schools for other reasons.

Here you will find helpful information on what to do if your child needs to move schools during the school year.

You will need to fill in an In-Year Transfer (application) form.  You can get this from school.  Ask them for an application form, fill it in and return it to them. You will need to provide proof of your address.  Our school office will provide  you with an application form, even if we are already at capacity.  If you do not apply, you will not go on the waiting list and will not have the right of appeal.

Stoke-on-Trent Admissions Team do not co-ordinate In-Year Transfers for schools in Stoke-on-Trent as each school manages their own applications.  On the school’s website you will find

  • information about how to apply for a school place
  • when you will be notified of the outcome of your application, and
  • details about the right to appeal.

We strongly advise you visit any school which you are choosing to move to so that you know if it fits your ethos and vision for your child. Tours of our academy can be arranged via the academy office on 01782 235055
