At Star Academy we view the community as an extension of our school and we are working passionately to develop links within the Sandyford area.
Our long term vision is the school will be a hub for the community providing many services from pre-school playgroup to youth clubs, from drop in police surgeries to fire safety advice. We have an ambition to set up a community farm and on site fruit and vegetable gardens. Star Academy will be a building that is used by the whole community every day, of every week of the whole year.
So far the school has set up links with the following partners.
- PSCO – Andy Wooton
- Fire Service – Rehana Iqbal
- School Nurse – Alison Hough
- Tunstall Children’s Centre – Alison Shelly and Claire Williamson
- Safe School Journeys – Stephen Dyster
- Reading Partners Project – Ann Shackleston
- Family Learning – Karen Gibson
- Healthy Families – Ministry of Sport/NHS
Every Monday and Thursday we provide a pre-school play and stay group from 2-3pm. Fortnightly coffee mornings have just started and family learning sessions are being planned. We also have a bike it breakfast and bike health check up arranged where we are promoting healthier journeys to school.
We are also proud sponsors of the Sandyford Community Fire Station allotment. Our gardening club that is lead by Mr Battrick have big plans for the allotment and it will be an area that we will use within curriculum time plus as an after school activity.
