Governors

Our Local Governing Body (LGB) is made up of the following people.

Chair of Governors with responsibility for Safeguarding – Helen Rowley – appointing body – Academy Transformation Trust

Helen Rowley photoHi, I am Helen Rowley. I became Chair of Governors in September 2015, and have been on the Local Governing Board since March 2014.   I am now retired but I used to work in Local Government. I have a professional background in Social Services but have also managed services as diverse as bin collection to leisure centres! When I retired I was the Deputy Chief Executive of Macclesfield Borough Council.   I come from Liverpool originally and am a proud ‘Scouser’ but have lived in Newcastle for nineteen years so now feel that the Potteries is my home.   I am married to Steve and between us we have four grown up children.   I am passionate about education, which I believe opens up so many opportunities for our children. More than this, it can help them become happy and well rounded people who can cope well in the world. I am proud that Star does this for our children and am delighted to be part of the team helping the academy move forward.

Vice Chair with responsibility for English – Julie Cumberlidge – appointing body – Academy Transformation Trust

Julie Cumberlidge photoMy name is Julie Cumberlidge. My role is Vice Chair of Star Academy Local Governing Body. I started as Parent Governor for the school when it was still Hollywall Primary and therefore have seen the school grow and develop over the past few years from a failing school to one heading for outstanding. It has been a privilege to have been part of this journey and see the changes not only in the physical environment and teaching but the impact it is having on the pupils.

I have a child at school currently in Year 3. My day job is that of an NHS Hospital Matron and away from work as a family we are Stoke City season ticket holders.
