Curriculum

The Star Academy Curriculum is a research based building blocks curriculum which ensures a wide and thorough curriculum enabling all children to find and develop their talents.

The Curriculum is carefully planned to ensure that the needs of all children are met and that they are enthused, motivated and challenged in their thinking and learning. The curriculum is knowledge based and is adapted and sequenced to allow children to develop, use and expand their knowledge through a series of linked lessons blocked into subjects.

In English, quality texts are linked to further enhance the knowledge and
understanding of the wider curriculum and opportunities to write are purposeful.

In addition to our wider curriculum we use published schemes that are used throughout the Academy to support areas of the curriculum are:-
Maths – Hamilton short blocks
Reading – Dandelion Readers in our Early Years Department and for children on lower phonic stages higher up in the academy, Big Cat by Collins throughout the whole Academy.
Phonics – we follow the Letters and Sounds teaching programme in Early Years and Key stage 1
